An MTL (material) file is most commonly associated with the 3D model format OBJ and is used by the OBJ file format as a means to store material information related to the OBJ model. This material information may also include textures, which are typically stored in separate image files.
The information is stored within the MTL file as plain text, making it easy to read and modify by hand. An MTL file does not have much use without the accompanying OBJ file; however, it can be used with our range of MTL converters to convert the materials into other 3D formats that also support materials such as FBX.
Due to their nature in that they only store material data, GLB files, when imported, our tools will create some sample 3D geometry and apply the materials found within the GLB file to this geometry.

The GLB file format, which can also have the GLTF file extension depending on whether the content is binary or text/JSON, is a 3D file format used to describe 3D worlds and, as such, contains geometric data such as vertices, faces, normals, animations, and other 3D scene-related data.
The format, described by its creators as the "JPEG of 3D", has gained in popularity and is supported by a wide range of 3D modeling applications such as Blender and MeshLab. The GLB format is an open standard that is maintained by the Khronos Group.
If your original model file contains texture images and other texture-related data, these will be included in the final GLB file.

Yes, of course! We do not store the MTL file you submit to us. The resulting GLB file, once created is deleted 15 minutes after upload and the download link will expire after this time.

Yes. When you have converted your MTL to GLB, there is a "Feedback" option that you can use to let us know of any issues you encountered when converting your file.
