Convert Your 3D Mesh/Model DXF Files to OBJ

to

Our free and fast tool will convert most 3D mesh or DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) model files to a standard OBJ (Wavefront) file that can then be edited further in most popular 3D editing packages such as Blender or 3D printed without any further processing.

To convert your DXF file click the Upload button above and select the file to convert. Once selected, the file will be converted to a OBJ file and will ready for download shortly afterwards. For more information about the DXF to OBJ conversion process see the conversion information section below for more information.

FAQ

How can I convert my DXF file to OBJ?

First click the "Upload..." button, select your DXF file to upload. Select any configuration options. When the DXF to OBJ conversion has completed, you can download your OBJ file straight away.

How long does it take to convert my DXF to OBJ?

We aim to process all DXF to OBJ conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.

How accurate is the DXF to OBJ conversion?

We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features and improvements being added every week.

Is it safe to convert my DXF to OBJ on ImageToStl.com?

Yes, of course! We do not store the DXF file you submit to us. The resulting OBJ file, once created is deleted 15 minutes after upload and the download link will expire after this time.

Can I convert DXF to OBJ on Windows, Linux, Android, iOS or Mac OS?

Yes! Our DXF to OBJ tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.

What if I am using an Ad Blocker, will that affect things?

File format information for DXF to OBJ

ExtensionDXF
Full NameDrawing Exchange Format
TypeCAD
Mime Typeimage/x-dxf
FormatBinary

Description

The DXF file format was first introduced in 1982 as part of Autodesk's AutoCAD software. DXF files were intended at the time to allow data interchange between AutoCAD and other CAD related applications. The format has evolved over the years with the most recent version coming in 2007.

DXF files can contain either text or binary content describing Blocks, Entities, Objects and other information using a "Tagging" system. The DXF format is still popular today and can be opened with most popular CAD applications.

DXF Notes

When imported, DXF files will be converted to 3D geometry comprising vertices and faces using an Extrude method, the extrusion value can be set before the conversion starts. If the DXF file contains color information this will be included where possible.

Supported Features

  • Mesh geometry
  • Mesh colors
ExtensionOBJ
Full NameWavefront
Type3D Model
Mime Typetext/plain
FormatText
Open WithMeshLab, CAD Assistant, DAZ Studio

Description

The OBJ file format originally created by Wavefront Technologies and later adopted by many other 3D software vendors is a simple text-based file format for describing 3D model/geometry. This data can include Vertices, Faces, Normals, Texture Coordinates and references to external Texture files.

As the format is text-based it is relatively straight-forward to parse by 3D modelling applications. A downside of the text-based format is the files can be rather large compared to similar binary formats such as STL and compressed files such as 3MF.

OBJ Notes

Our tool does not currently support saving material or color information for OBJ files.

Supported Features

  • Mesh geometry

Unsupported Features

  • Textures
  • Material colors
