Our free and fast tool will convert most 3D mesh or STP (STEP-File) model files to a standard X (Direct X File) file that can then be edited further in most popular 3D editing packages such as Blender or 3D printed without any further processing.
To convert your STP file click the Upload button above and select the file to convert. Once selected, the file will be converted to a X file and will ready for download shortly afterwards. For more information about the STP to X conversion process see the conversion information section below for more information.
Here are 2 simple steps to convert your STP to X.
First click the "Upload..." button, select your STP file to upload. Select any configuration options. When the STP to X conversion has completed, you can download your X file straight away.
We aim to process all STP to X conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.
We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features being added every week.
Yes, of course! We do not store the STP file you submit to us. The resulting X file, once created is deleted 1 hour after upload and the download link will expire after this time.
Yes! Our STP to X tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.
Full Name: STEP-File
Type: 3D Model
Mime Type: application/octet-stream
The STP file format is a 3D format defined in 1994 and used to store 3D objects for use in Computer-aided design (CAD) applications. STP files are text-based formatted files containing one instance per line.
Although STP files are widely supported by most CAD applications the format does have its limitations, such as the necessity to read the complete file into memory in order to parse the contents and due to the text storage of information the files can be quite large.
STP files when imported will be converted to 3D geometry comprising vertices and faces. If the STP file contains color information this will be converted where possible.
Full Name: Direct X File
Type: 3D Model
Mime Type: text/plain
The X 3D file format extension was introduced by Microsoft with the launch of Version 2 of their 3D graphics API Direct X back in 2002. The format has evolved over the years however in 2014 the X file format was deprecated in favour of newer more capable formats such as FBX.
The format is a simple text based file capable of storing 3D mesh information such as vertices, faces, normals and material information. In addition to basic 3D information the format can also store animations with the X file format primarily used in the development of games.
X files support material and color information. If your uploaded model contains color information our tool will attempt to save this in the X file at the end of the conversion process. Texture information is not supported at this time.
