The SKP 3D file format is the native file format used by SketchUp. The SketchUp application, which was released back in 2000 and is still going strong today, allows users to create detailed 3D graphics models.
SketchUp is popular amongst architectural designers, game developers, and other professionals and hobbyist users. The SKP format can be opened with the SketchUp application.
Our tool will export only polygon mesh data along with color information. Curved surfaces and textures are not supported and will be ignored.

The WRL file format is a 3D-based model format originally created in the 1990's that was aimed at website usage. The format is text-based and contains 3D geometry data such as vertices, faces, simple shapes, material information, and more.
This format, when launched, was hoped to become a standard 3D format; however, due to the large file sizes, it didn't see wide adoption, although it is a supported format within some CAD software applications. It was later superseded by the X3D file format, which shares most of the functionality of WRL files.
WRL files support material and color information. If your uploaded model contains color information, our tool will attempt to save this in the WRL file at the end of the conversion process. Texture information is not supported at this time.
Converting from the SKP file format to WRL can be a complex process, and any tool used for this conversion process needs to be able to handle a variety of data conversion tasks as well as identify any defects within the 3D model and fix them. In its simplest form, an SKP file is a binary data file containing 3D data such as vertices, faces, normals, and more. When combined, these make up the 3D model you see on your screen.

With the SKP file data read, our tool generates an internal representation of the full 3D model and will attempt to fix any geometry issues encountered. Along with repairing any issues with the 3D model, the tool will remove any duplicated vertices and prepare the model for exporting to the WRL format.
With the conversion process entering its final stages, our tool now needs to take the in-memory 3D model we have created in step 2 and convert it to the WRL format.
