Convert Your 3D Mesh/Model PTX Files to WRL

to

Our free and fast tool will convert most 3D mesh or PTX (Point Cloud) model files to a standard WRL (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) file that can then be edited further in most popular 3D editing packages such as Blender or 3D printed without any further processing.

To convert your PTX file click the Upload button above and select the file to convert. Once selected, the file will be converted to a WRL file and will ready for download shortly afterwards. For more information about the PTX to WRL conversion process see the conversion information section below for more information.

FAQ

How can I convert my PTX file to WRL?

First click the "Upload..." button, select your PTX file to upload. Select any configuration options. When the PTX to WRL conversion has completed, you can download your WRL file straight away.

How long does it take to convert my PTX to WRL?

We aim to process all PTX to WRL conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.

How accurate is the PTX to WRL conversion?

We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features being added every week.

Is it safe to convert my PTX to WRL on ImageToStl.com?

Yes, of course! We do not store the PTX file you submit to us. The resulting WRL file, once created is deleted 1 hour after upload and the download link will expire after this time.

Can I convert PTX to WRL on Windows, Linux, Android, iOS or Mac OS?

Yes! Our PTX to WRL tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.

File format information for PTX to WRL

Extension: PTX

Full Name: Point Cloud

Type: 3D Model

Mime Type: text/plain

Format: Text

Description

The PTX is a 3D file format used for representing 3D Point Clouds. The format contains only positional information (X, Y, Z coordinates) for the individual points. The format is often used for digital elevation modelling of terrain for later processing in 3D modelling applications.

As the format only contains positional information a common task is to convert this into a fully surfaced 3D model using methods such as Alpha Shapes or Delaunay Triangulation. The format can also be viewed without further processing in its raw format.

PTX Notes

The PTX file format was designed to store vertex information only to allow the construction of simple Point Cloud models.

Supported Features

  • Mesh vertex data

Extension: WRL

Full Name: Virtual Reality Modeling Language

Type: 3D Model

Mime Type: model/vrml x-world/x-vrml application/x-cc3d

Format: Text

Description

The WRL file format is a 3D based model format originally created in the 1990's which was aimed at website usage. The format is text based and contains 3D geometry data such as vertices, faces, simple shapes and material information and more.

This format when launched was hoped to become a standard 3D format, however due to the large file sizes it didn't see wide spread adoption although it is a supported format within some CAD software applications. It was later superseded by the X3D file format which shares most of the functionality of WRL files.

WRL Notes

WRL files support material and color information. If your uploaded model contains color information our tool will attempt to save this in the WRL file at the end of the conversion process. Texture information is not supported at this time.

Supported Features

  • Mesh geometry
  • Mesh material colors
  • Vertex colors

Unsupported Features

  • Textures
