Our free and fast tool will convert most 3D mesh or PTX (Point Cloud) model files to a standard PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file that can then be edited further in most popular 3D editing packages such as Blender or 3D printed without any further processing.
To convert your PTX file click the Upload button above and select the file to convert. Once selected, the file will be converted to a PNG file and will ready for download shortly afterwards. For more information about the PTX to PNG conversion process see the conversion information section below for more information.
Here are 2 simple steps to convert your PTX to PNG.
First click the "Upload..." button, select your PTX file to upload. Select any configuration options. When the PTX to PNG conversion has completed, you can download your PNG file straight away.
We aim to process all PTX to PNG conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.
We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features and improvements being added every week.
Yes, of course! We do not store the PTX file you submit to us. The resulting PNG file, once created is deleted 15 minutes after upload and the download link will expire after this time.
Yes! Our PTX to PNG tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.
Yes. Although you can use an Ad Blocker, if you like our PTX conversion tool please consider white-listing our site. When an Ad Blocker is enabled there are some conversion limits on some of our tools and processing/conversion times will be longer.
|Full Name||Point Cloud|
|Type||3D Model/Point Cloud|
The PTX is a 3D file format used for representing 3D Point Clouds. The format contains only positional information (X, Y, Z coordinates) for the individual points. The format is often used for digital elevation modelling of terrain for later processing in 3D modelling applications.
As the format only contains positional information a common task is to convert this into a fully surfaced 3D model using methods such as Alpha Shapes or Delaunay Triangulation. The format can also be viewed without further processing in its raw format.
The PTX file format was designed to store vertex information only to allow the construction of simple Point Cloud models.
The PNG graphics file format is a commonly used format for storing 2D images which can be highly compressed by the use a palette if the image has a sufficiently low number of colors (256 colors in general). The PNG file is then further compressed using the DEFLATE compression algorithm to ensure small file sizes that are fast to download.
PNG files are seen as the logical successor to the GIF image file format and was devised in the mid-1990's as a superior format to GIF. PNG files are generally used for company logos, icons and other non-photographic image content. Saving a digital photo in the PNG format will create a much larger file than an equivalent JPG image hence the PNG format being unsuitable for most digital photo content.
