Use our free and fast online tool to convert your STEP (STEP-File) 3D model file into a PNG (Portable Network Graphics) image file ready to download. Once the model has been loaded you will be presented with a real-time 3D rendering of the model which you will be able to rotate, zoom and pan into the perfect position prior to capturing a screenshot for download.
Here are 2 simple steps to convert your STEP to PNG.
First click the "Upload..." button, select your STEP file to upload. Select any configuration options. When the STEP to PNG conversion has completed, you can download your PNG file straight away.
We aim to process all STEP to PNG conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.
We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features and improvements being added every week.
Yes, of course! We do not store the STEP file you submit to us. The resulting PNG file, once created is deleted 1 hour after upload and the download link will expire after this time.
Yes! Our STEP to PNG tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.

The STEP file format is a 3D format defined in 1994 and used to store 3D objects for use in Computer-aided design (CAD) applications. STEP files are text-based formatted files containing one instance per line.
Although STEP files are widely supported by most CAD applications the format does have its limitations, such as the necessity to read the complete file into memory in order to parse the contents and due to the text storage of information the files can be quite large.
STEP files when imported will be converted to 3D geometry comprising vertices and faces. If the STEP file contains color information this will be converted where possible.
The PNG graphics file format is a commonly used format for storing 2D images which can be highly compressed by the use a palette if the image has a sufficiently low number of colors (256 colors in general). The PNG file is then further compressed using the DEFLATE compression algorithm to ensure small file sizes that are fast to download.
PNG files are seen as the logical successor to the GIF image file format and was devised in the mid-1990's as a superior format to GIF. PNG files are generally used for company logos, icons and other non-photographic image content. Saving a digital photo in the PNG format will create a much larger file than an equivalent JPG image hence the PNG format being unsuitable for most digital photo content.
