Our free and fast tool will convert most 3D mesh or DCM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM)) model files to a standard PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file that can then be edited further in most popular 3D editing packages such as Blender or 3D printed without any further processing. Our conversion tool can also batch convert multiple DCM files, up to 25 files at a time can be converted.
To convert your DCM file click the Upload button above and select the file to convert. Once selected, the file will be converted to a PNG file and will ready for download shortly afterwards. For more information about the DCM to PNG conversion process see the conversion information section below for more information.

A DCM file is an image file format developed over a long period of time for the storage of medical-related images. The format was first released in the 1980's and has been adapted and improved since to cater for ever-evolving healthcare requirements.
The format is primarily used to store medical images such as CT scans, X-rays, MRIs and more. A single DCM file may contain many individual images along with medical-related metadata such as patient information. The individual images may be stored as raw bitmap data or compressed JPEG data.
The PNG graphics file format is a commonly used format for storing 2D images which can be highly compressed by the use of a palette if the image has a sufficiently low number of colors (256 colors in general). The PNG file is then further compressed using the DEFLATE compression algorithm to ensure small file sizes that are fast to download.
PNG files are seen as the logical successor to the GIF image file format and was devised in the mid-1990's as a superior format to GIF. PNG files are generally used for company logos, icons and other non-photographic image content. Saving a digital photo in the PNG format will create a much larger file than an equivalent JPG image hence the PNG format being unsuitable for most digital photo content.
