Our free and fast tool will convert most 3D mesh or FBX (Autodesk Filmbox) model files to a standard 3MF (3D Manufacturing Format) file that can then be edited further in most popular 3D editing packages such as Blender or 3D printed without any further processing.
To convert your FBX file click the Upload button above and select the file to convert. Once selected, the file will be converted to a 3MF file and will ready for download shortly afterwards. For more information about the FBX to 3MF conversion process see the conversion information section below for more information.
Here are 2 simple steps to convert your FBX to 3MF.
Our tool can read binary FBX versions 7.0 and above and text formatted FBX files version 6.4 and above. Please ensure your FBX version meets these requirements before uploading.
First click the "Upload..." button, select your FBX file to upload. Select any configuration options. When the FBX to 3MF conversion has completed, you can download your 3MF file straight away.
We aim to process all FBX to 3MF conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.
We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features being added every week.
Yes, of course! We do not store the FBX file you submit to us. The resulting 3MF file, once created is deleted 1 hour after upload and the download link will expire after this time.
Yes! Our FBX to 3MF tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.

The FBX format by AutoDesk was originally developed by Kaydara in the 1990s as a means to store 2D or 3D content with motion data. It has evolved over the years to become a widely used format by 3D modelling applications such as Blender, 3D Studio Max and others due to its 3D animation capabilities.
The format is used to contain 3D models which includes vertices, faces and other 3D geometry along with animation data. The format is proprietary however there is a publicly available API to use for development purposes. The file contents can be either text or binary and work has been carried out by the Blender Foundation to document the format.
3MF files are a modern 3D file format designed specifically for use with 3D printable models (additive manufacturing). It was designed to be the successor to the popular legacy STL format (also a common format in 3D printing) to overcome the limitations of that format.
The format of 3MF files is XML based that are compressed with the standard Zip file compression resulting in small, easily transferable files. The format supports 3D meshes along with associated materials and textures all contained within the Zip file.
If your FBX file contains textures, these will be ignored. If a material contains color information this will be translated where possible.
3MF files support material and color information. If your uploaded model contains color information our tool will attempt to save this in the 3MF file at the end of the conversion process. Texture information is not supported at this time.
