Along with converting AI image files to GIF, our tool allows you to also adjust the image with some simple effects, such as applying a grayscale filter to the image. The AI file format, or Adobe Illustrator Artwork, to give it its full name, has been around since 1987. Developed by Adobe, the AI file is a vector-based image format initially created to encompass the EPS and PDF formats.
The format has continued to be improved since its initial release and is widely supported today by many well-known vector-based graphics programs, such as CorelDRAW and Paint Shop Pro.

GIF files have been around since the mid-to-late 1980's and were introduced by CompuServe as a way to compress color images into small file sizes suitable for downloading, at which time most download speeds were limited. The format allows varying-size color palettes of up to 256 colors in total to be defined from a palette of 16 million colors.
