Convert Your 3D Mesh/Model MAX Files to AMF

to

Here we detail how to convert your MAX file to an AMF file using the export options found within the Autodesk 3ds Max application. Currently, our converters cannot convert directly from MAX to AMF. However,  using the built-in export functions of Autodesk 3ds Max, we can achieve the conversion.

Firstly, you will need to load your MAX file into Autodesk 3ds Max and select the export to FBX option. Once you have your file in the FBX format, you can use our FBX to AMF converter to complete the conversion process.

How to Convert your MAX to AMF Online?

Here are two simple steps to convert your MAX to AMF.

Open your MAX File

Open your MAX file in Autodesk 3ds Max and select the Export to FBX option

Convert the FBX File

Use our FBX to AMF converter to complete the conversion

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to convert my MAX to AMF?

We aim to process all MAX to AMF conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.

How accurate is the MAX to AMF conversion?

We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features and improvements being added every week.

Is it safe to convert my MAX to AMF on ImageToStl.com?

Yes, of course! We do not store the MAX file you submit to us. The resulting AMF file, once created is deleted 15 minutes after upload and the download link will expire after this time.

Can I convert my MAX to AMF on Windows, Linux, Android, iOS or Mac OS?

Yes! Our MAX to AMF tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.

What if I am using an Ad Blocker, will that affect things?

Yes. Although you can use an Ad Blocker, if you like our MAX conversion tool please consider white-listing our site. When an Ad Blocker is enabled there are some conversion limits on some of our tools and processing/conversion times will be longer.

Can I get support with converting my MAX to AMF?

Yes. When you have converted your MAX to AMF, there is a "Feedback" option that you can use to let us know of any issues you encountered when converting your file.

Description

The MAX file format is a 3D format used by the popular 3D modeling application Autodesk 3ds Max. The MAX format was introduced by Autodesk in 1996 and is still maintained, with new versions released in recent years.

Autodesk 3ds Max is popular among game developers, TV studios, and special effects studios.

ExtensionAMF
Full NameAdditive Manufacturing File
Type3D Model
Mime Typetext/xml
FormatText
ToolsAMF Converters, 3D Model Voxelizer, Create AMF Animation, Compress AMF, AMF Asset Extractor, Text to AMF, AMF Viewer

Description

The AMF, or additive manufacturing file format, is an open standard 3D file format primarily used within additive manufacturing processes such as 3D printing. The initial release version of the file was in 2011, and the format continues to be developed today.

As this is a 3D file format, the contents, which are XML-based, describe one or many 3D objects broken down into solid volumes defined with vertices and triangles. The format has support for color and texture materials.

How does it work?

Converting from the MAX file format to AMF can be a complex process, and any tool used for this conversion process needs to be able to handle a variety of data conversion tasks as well as identify any defects within the 3D model and fix them. Here we will explain the conversion process used by our tool to accurately convert your MAX file to a valid AMF 3D model. Let's start with the conversion process, which involves the following steps:

Step 1: Read the Source MAX File

In its simplest form, an MAX file is a binary data file containing 3D data such as vertices, faces, normals, and more. When combined, these make up the 3D model you see on your screen.

For more information regarding the MAX file format, please see this great article that goes into a lot of detail explaining the MAX format.

Step 2: Process File Data

With the MAX file data read, our tool generates an internal representation of the full 3D model and will attempt to fix any geometry issues encountered. Along with repairing any issues with the 3D model, the tool will remove any duplicated vertices and prepare the model for exporting to the AMF format.

Step 3: Saving to the AMF Format

With the conversion process entering its final stages, our tool now needs to take the in-memory 3D model we have created in step 2 and convert it to the AMF format.
