ASE (Ascii Scene Export)

The ASE format (Ascii Scene Export) is a plain text file format used to represent a full 3D scene. The format is associated primarily with the 3ds Max software and is designed to allow complex 3D data to be moved between different 3D applications.

A populated ASE file will contain several sections prefixed with a * character; for example, "*MESH" indicates a 3D mesh, which will include relevant data for vertices, faces, normals, and texture coordinates. Other information is included in the file, such as scene metadata, lighting parameters, and material definitions.

Due to it being a text-based format, ASE files can grow quite large when exporting large and complex 3D scenes. As motioned, ASE files are primarily supported by 3ds Max; however, they are supported by other 3D modeling software such as Blender and others.
