3GP (Multimedia Container Format)

The 3GP file format is a video/audio format introduced in 2004 aimed specifically at mobile phones of the time and is largely compatible with the MPEG-4 file format. The 3GP format can encode a video and audio data channel in a single compressed file.

Although mostly used by early mobile phones and other portable devices such as the Nintendo DS, the 3GP format is still used today, with the files playable on Windows, Mac, and Linux-based operating systems and other 3rd party video editing software.
