PFM (Portable float map)

A PFM (Portable Float Map) file is an image file used to store bitmap images in a simple binary format. The high precision of the data stored within these files has made them an ideal format where image quality is the most important requirement.

Image pixel data is represented using floating point numbers rather than plain byte range numbers found in most other image formats, making PFM files unique among other formats available at the time.
