CSV (Comma-separated Values)

The CSV file is a simple text-based data storage format that dates back to the early 1970s. The format has been used over the years and was standardized in 2005, when specific formatting requirements were set out for CSV files.

Simple text data separated by a "," character makes up the content of a CSV file. Each data record within the CSV must be placed on a new line, and each line should contain the same number of ',' characters. The format is widely used for data transfer in database and spreadsheet applications.
