Create vector image files with our easy-to-use and free tool. Our tool lets you upload a BMP (Bitmap Image File) file and, from this, create a vector-based DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) file that you can then download and edit within vector file editors or use for high-definition printing applications. If you have multiple BMP files to convert, then our tool can also batch convert BMP files too. Currently, our tool supports up to 25 conversions at a time.
Options are available to specify or remove a background color if the source BMP image does not contain a transparent background. Our tool can attempt to determine the background color automatically, or you can manually specify the background color to remove.
Here are three simple steps to create an DXF file from a BMP file.
The Mode setting is used by the tool to inform it of the best way to vectorize the image by providing it with clues as to the type of image being submitted. The Auto mode attempts to find the most suitable settings for the image uploaded. There are, however, other options to help fine-tune this process, which we explain in more detail in the Tool Options section below.
With this setting, it is possible to reduce the inclusion of small holes within the final vector file caused by small, contrasting areas of the source BMP file, which can be useful in situations where the source image has not been optimized for use with the tool.
Use this value to merge similar colors; this is useful if the image is of low quality. A higher number can help reduce the effects of anti-aliasing in the BMP image.
When this option is enabled, the tool will automatically attempt to make the background of your image transparent.
Manually specify your image background color rather than our tool trying to automatically work it out.
If the tool is unable to identify the background and you know the background color, you can specify it here.
This value can be adjusted to control the background removal tolerance. The higher the value, the more background is removed.
A higher value is useful for creating smoother results if your image is anti-aliased.

The BMP file format is a two-dimensional image file format popular on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Data is stored in the BMP file in a raster format, with pixels being represented using various color depths ranging from monochrome 1-bit per pixel (bpp) to full color 24-bits per pixel.
The format can also contain an image alpha channel, which is typically 8 bits per pixel in size and is used to describe image transparency. BMP files can also optionally be compressed using a lossless compression algorithm, meaning smaller files with no loss of image quality.

The DXF file format was first introduced in 1982 as part of Autodesk's AutoCAD software. DXF files were intended at the time to allow data interchange between AutoCAD and other CAD-related applications. The format has evolved over the years, with the most recent version coming in 2007.
DXF files can contain either text or binary content describing blocks, entities, objects, and other information using a "tagging" system. The DXF format is still popular today and can be opened with most popular CAD applications.
First click the "Upload..." button, select your BMP file to upload. Select any configuration options. When the BMP to DXF conversion has completed, you can download your DXF file straight away.
We aim to process all BMP to DXF conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds but can be more for larger more complex files so please be patient.
We aim to create the most accurate conversions with our tools. Our tools are under constant development with new features and improvements being added every week.
Yes, of course! We do not store the BMP file you submit to us. The resulting DXF file, once created is deleted 15 minutes after upload and the download link will expire after this time.
No. All our conversion tools process your BMP file on our dedicated conversion servers, meaning you can use our tools on low-spec computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices and receive your converted DXF file quickly.
Yes! Our BMP to DXF tool will run on any system with a modern web browser. No specialist software is needed to run any of our conversion tools.
Yes. Although you can use an Ad Blocker, if you like our BMP conversion tool please consider white-listing our site. When an Ad Blocker is enabled there are some conversion limits on some of our tools and processing/conversion times will be longer.
Yes. When you have converted your BMP to DXF, there is a "Feedback" option that you can use to let us know of any issues you encountered when converting your file.
