HTML (HyperText Markup Language)

The HTML file format is the standard document format containing a markup language used to display content in a web browser. The format was initially released in 1993 as a means to create a standard for displaying image and text content online.

The files are text-based, which, along with the markup language, can contain CSS to control the look of the content, along with a programmable script using JavaScript. The format has evolved since its first release, and HTML5 is the latest version, which has added more advanced graphics capabilities, such as the Canvas element for fast two-dimensional raster graphics.
