MOV (QuickTime File Format)

The MOV (QuickTime) format is a container format for video and audio tracks as well as text. The format was introduced in 1991 by Apple and has widespread support among video editing applications.

It is a binary file format where the video content is stored in the MPEG-4 format, making it mostly compatible with the MP4 format. Indeed, it is possible to convert between the two formats directly without the need for separate processing of the video and audio data channels.
