Convert your AVIF file to SVG

Create vector image files with our easy-to-use and free tool. Our tool lets you upload a AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) file and, from this, create a vector-based SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) file that you can then download and edit within vector file editors or use for high-definition printing applications. If you have multiple AVIF files to convert, then our tool can also batch convert AVIF files too. Currently, our tool supports up to 25 conversions at a time.

Options are available to specify or remove a background color if the source AVIF image does not contain a transparent background. Our tool can attempt to determine the background color automatically, or you can manually specify the background color to remove.

AVIF to SVG Conversion Options

Mode

The Mode setting is used by the tool to inform it of the best way to vectorize the image by providing it with clues as to the type of image being submitted. The Auto mode attempts to find the most suitable settings for the image uploaded. There are, however, other options to help fine-tune this process, which we explain in more detail in the Tool Options section below.

Hole Reduction

With this setting, it is possible to reduce the inclusion of small holes within the final vector file caused by small, contrasting areas of the source AVIF file, which can be useful in situations where the source image has not been optimized for use with the tool.

Merge Similar Colors

Use this value to merge similar colors; this is useful if the image is of low quality. A higher number can help reduce the effects of anti-aliasing in the AVIF image.

Convert the Background Color to Transparent

When this setting is enabled, the AVIF to SVG vectorizer tool will apply a transparent background to the resulting SVG file. Further options below help assist the tool in identifying the background color in the source AVIF file.

Auto Detect Background Color

When this setting is enabled, the vectorizer tool will attempt to automatically determine the background color of the AVIF image file and replace it with transparency in the final SVG file.

Specify Color #

If your source AVIF image has a background color that our tool cannot identify, then you may specify the color manually here in the form of its hex color code.

Mime Typeimage/avif

Description

The AVIF format is an image-based container format designed to store images or image sequences that are compressed with the AV1 compression algorithm. The format has been around since 2019 and is based on the HEIF container format, and as such, it competes with the HEIC image format.

During tests, the format has shown to perform better than JPG files, not just in the reduced file size but in overall image quality. Support for the format is growing and is already supported in the Chrome and Firefox web browsers. AVIF files can also be opened in many 2D image editing applications.

ExtensionSVG
Full NameScalable Vector Graphics
TypeVector
Mime Typeimage/svg+xml
FormatText

Open WithInkscape

Description

Introduced by the W3C organization in 2001, the SVG file format grew to become the standard web file format for vector-based 2D images and is supported by the majority of modern web browsers. SVG files are XML-based text files containing 2D vector elements such as paths, simple shapes, colors, and more.

The SVG format itself, while primarily a vector format, can include raster images as well as text. Due to their vector-based format, SVG files lend themselves very well to website company logos and icons. A compressed format of SVG also exists, which uses the extension SVGZ and employs the GZIP compression algorithm.
