Convert your ICO file to DXF

Create vector image files with our easy-to-use and free tool. Our tool lets you upload a ICO (Icon) file and, from this, create a vector-based DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) file that you can then download and edit within vector file editors or use for high-definition printing applications. If you have multiple ICO files to convert, then our tool can also batch convert ICO files too. Currently, our tool supports up to 25 conversions at a time.

Options are available to specify or remove a background color if the source ICO image does not contain a transparent background. Our tool can attempt to determine the background color automatically, or you can manually specify the background color to remove.

How to Convert your ICO to DXF Online?

Here are three simple steps to create an DXF file from a ICO file.

Upload a ICO

Click the "Upload a File" button and select ICO to upload. The maximum file size is 100MB.

Select your Options

Set the dimensions and other options, and click the "Convert to DXF" button to convert your ICO to DXF.

Download your DXF

Click the download link once completed to receive your DXF file.

ICO to DXF Conversion Options

Mode

The Mode setting is used by the tool to inform it of the best way to vectorize the image by providing it with clues as to the type of image being submitted. The Auto mode attempts to find the most suitable settings for the image uploaded. There are, however, other options to help fine-tune this process, which we explain in more detail in the Tool Options section below.

Hole Reduction

With this setting, it is possible to reduce the inclusion of small holes within the final vector file caused by small, contrasting areas of the source ICO file, which can be useful in situations where the source image has not been optimized for use with the tool.

Merge Similar Colors

Use this value to merge similar colors; this is useful if the image is of low quality. A higher number can help reduce the effects of anti-aliasing in the ICO image.

Convert the Background Color to Transparent

When this setting is enabled, the ICO to DXF vectorizer tool will apply a transparent background to the resulting DXF file. Further options below help assist the tool in identifying the background color in the source ICO file.

Auto Detect Background Color

When this setting is enabled, the vectorizer tool will attempt to automatically determine the background color of the ICO image file and replace it with transparency in the final DXF file.

Specify Color #

If your source ICO image has a background color that our tool cannot identify, then you may specify the color manually here in the form of its hex color code.

File Format Information for ICO to DXF

Description

The ICO file is an image format that started life on Microsoft Windows 1.0 and was used exclusively for storing image icons used by the operating system. Back then, ICO files were limited in size to 32x32 pixels with only two colors. With subsequent versions of Windows, the format has been amended and upgraded to support larger images with more colors.

Although the initial ICO format was not compressed due to their already small sizes (and limited computing power to decompress them in real-time), as the size of image icons has increased over the years, Microsoft recommends that for larger icon files, PNG compression be used for storing the raster data.

Description

The DXF file format was first introduced in 1982 as part of Autodesk's AutoCAD software. DXF files were intended at the time to allow data interchange between AutoCAD and other CAD-related applications. The format has evolved over the years, with the most recent version coming in 2007.

DXF files can contain either text or binary content describing blocks, entities, objects, and other information using a "tagging" system. The DXF format is still popular today and can be opened with most popular CAD applications.
